Uptober

Month crypto Twitter waits all year for

Every year around this time, the same word starts trending across crypto circles: Uptober.

It's not an official holiday, there's no parade — just a long-running reputation that October tends to be good to Bitcoin.

Why October, exactly?

The nickname isn't just vibes.

Bitcoin's October returns, 2014–2025
Bar chart of Bitcoin's October returns from 2014 to 2025: red bars in 2014, 2018 and 2025, green bars in every other year, peaking near 50% in 2017

For 11 years, October has been red only twice — in 2014 and 2018. Everything else has been green, including a six-year winning streak from 2019 through 2024.

Some years weren't even close: both 2017 and 2021 saw BTC climb more than 40%.

But does the pattern always hold?

Not always — and it's worth saying that upfront.

That six-year streak snapped in 2025, when the month closed down about 3.69%, the first red October in seven years.

Seasonality is a pattern, not a promise, and Bitcoin has a habit of ignoring the calendar whenever it feels like it.
